New Interim Branch Chief
The Immunization Branch announces a transition in top management. Dr. John Talarico, who has served as Interim Branch Chief since August 2008, is leaving the Branch to return to his former position as Chief of Emergency Preparedness Planning, Policy and Coordination in the Center for Infectious Disease (CID). Dr. Talarico was appointed temporarily in the absence of Dr. Howard Backer, who is on special assignment as Assistant Secretary for Emergency Response.

The Branch extends its gratitude to Dr. Talarico for his leadership over the past six months. Beginning February 17, Dr. Robert Schechter, Chief of the Branch’s Technical Assistance Section, will serve as Interim Immunization Branch Chief.  Dr. Backer is expected to return to his position as Branch Chief later this year.
